India, March 12 -- Mercedes-Benz's ambitious plans for electrification have hit a roadblock, with the German automaker scaling back its expectations for the uptake of electric and hybrid vehicles. Initially aiming for hybrids and EVs to make up 50 per cent of its sales by 2025, Mercedes has revised this goal, now targeting just 21 per cent of total shipments by 2024.

In view of this, the German carmaker has announced that it will continue production of the A-Class hatchback until 2026, cancelling previous plans to retire the fourth-generation model as early as this year, a report by Autocar suggested.
