JAMMU, May 6 -- In a recent judgment, Justice Sanjeev Kumar of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court invalidated the selection process conducted for the post of Assistant Professor Sociology under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category. The court observed that there was no evidence suggesting that the University of Jammu had made provisions for EWS reservation in its statutes or regulations.
The case stemmed from a petition filed by an individual who applied for the Assistant Professor Sociology position under the EWS category. Despite being provisionally selected, the petitioner challenged the selection process, citing the lack of legal framework for EWS reservation in the university's statutes or UGC guidelines.
