Sri Lanka, Feb. 13 -- The Police sergeant who succumbed to his injuries yesterday (12) after being shot while attempting to arrest a suspect in the Batapola, Malwathu Hirpitiya area in Gampaha last Saturday (10), has been posthumously promoted.
Police Media Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa said that the Police sergeant in question had been posthumously promoted to the rank of Sub-Inspector (SI), on orders of the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon.
In the early hours of Saturday, a team of Police officers from the Malwathu Hiripitiya Police Station had attempted to arrest a suspect wanted on warrant, in the Batepola area, when a scuffle had broken out and the suspect had tried to grab the firearm of the sergeant.
