Sri Lanka, March 1 -- Police Headquarters said that Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon has approved the scheme called 'Legal Relief Scheme' to provide legal aid to Police officers.

This had been approved previously at the Cabinet meeting held on July 7, 2022. The Cabinet paper in this regard was submitted to the Cabinet by Public Security Minister Tiran Alles through the Cabinet Memorandum No. AMA/22/0908/527/005 dated June 22, 2022.

In cases where a Police officer is subject to any legal action related to the proceedings carried out within the scope of duty and the Attorney General's Department refuses to provide legal assistance or does not provide legal assistance in relation to it, the Police officers are required ...
