New Delhi, April 30 -- During the hearing of an appeal against a case lingering for 17 years, the Supreme Court, which had previously stayed an order issued by the National Commission in 2007, raised several queries. The advocate representing the Bar of Indian Lawyers asserted that lawyers choose this profession for its noble character, highlighting its role in the judicial dispensation process. The advocate emphasized the fiduciary nature of the lawyer-client relationship, comparing it to a trustee relationship where trust and faith are pivotal.

The Supreme Court posed an additional query: In instances of service deficiency or negligence leading to loss for the litigant, is it possible to sue the lawyer for damages?
