Dhaka, April 25 -- Educational institutions will reopen on Sunday, despite the heatwave continuing to scorch Bangladesh.

Classes and exams will resume on Apr 28 after a week-long break due to the intense heat.

"The closures will not be extended because of the heat," an official from the Ministry of Education said on Thursday. "Schools will open on Sunday."

Schools were closed from Apr 21 - Apr 27 amid the searing heat.

On Wednesday, 52 districts across the country were experiencing a heatwave. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued several three-day warnings amid the baking heat.

Meteorologists have warned that the ongoing heat wave will continue into the first week of May.
