Jakarta, May 2 -- Mount Ruang, the stratovolcano in North Sulawesi, has the potential to spew hot clouds and lava floods, thereby necessitating awareness on the part of residents around the area.

"The current potential dangers are eruptions that produce hot clouds, incandescent material, and exposure to volcanic ash, which depended on the direction and speed of the wind and lava if heavy rain falls around Mount Ruang," head of the Geological Agency, Muhammad Wafid, noted in a statement from his office on Thursday.

Based on visual observations of Mount Ruang on April 22-May 2, the weather around the mountain is sunny to rainy, he remarked.
